To the Honorable President of the United States Mr. George W. Bush & Secretary of the Interior Mr. Dirk Kempthorne: The undersigned residents of the United States of America object to any more land being taken via the flawed tribal fee-to-trust process. My signature (electronically or otherwise) states my opposition to the way this process is currently operating. We have a nationwide problem that we are having in communities all around the country and to respectfully request that you stop allowing it to happen without community representation. I am referring to the flawed tribal fee-to-trust process being used and abused to remove land from local and state jurisdiction with little, if any, local community input. I am respectfully demanding fair representation by my government and ask that the Department of Interior no longer allow fee-to-trust transactions without better public hearings and requiring the same environmental reports be done that the majority of citizens would have to perform in acquiring and building on privately purchased land. I am respectfully demanding that third party non biased and comprehensive impact studies be done to include but not limited to traffic, crime, social, environmental, infrastructure, etc. - before any more land is allowed to be placed into federal trust status. I am respectfully requesting that all agreements with tribal governments must include the input of the local communities and be reviewed for their enforceability outside tribal courts and all agreements should include a “limited waiver of sovereign immunity” clause from the tribe. We all need to be on a level playing field – all playing by the same rules! We are all equal citizens of the United States of America and should be treated as such! Sincerely, (* denotes required field for electronic signature) | ||
